JV Lady Indians rally past Elbert, sweep Stephens in season-opener
A great comeback and then a dominant match marked the first action for JV
The JV Lady Indians had a great start to the season on Thursday night at Stephens County, taking on the host school and Elbert County in Toccoa.
vs Elbert County: W 2-1
A first-set win for Elbert had the Lady Blue Devils in a great position, but TFS had other plans in a comeback 2-1 win. The girls got out to a slow start, dropping a 15-25 first set. The Lady Indians' defense played better in the second set, and had better passes from the back row off the serve-receive.
"Better backrow play combined with sharper serving tipped the momentum for our girls," says coach Matt Crotta. "McKenzie McCoy really lifted our spirits with four aces and a run of eight serves. Finlee Ridlehoover followed her serving success with two aces on a run of five serves."
TFS routed Elbert 25-11 in the equalizing set. The Lady Indians pulled away in the finale early on, and held on for a 15-13 win to claim the match. Becca Roberts and Ridlehoover were both solid at serve.
vs Stephens County: W 2-0
Tallulah Falls took a straight-set win over Stephens County, 25-23 and 25-14.
"The girls really started settling down and found their rhythym by the second set," adds Crotta. "They put on a display with great passing and a solid offensive attack from Annalee Wall. Finlee did a great job setting up our hitters and scored with multiple setter dumps."
TFS moves to 2-0 on the young season.
