McCoy's PK wins it for Lady Indians, who advance to Tri-State Championship
Goalkeeper notches PK for epic win
The MS Lady Indians got a game-winner in PKs from their own goalkeeper Addisyn McCoy. She went from stopping Summit Charter's PK attempts to scoring one of her own on the final attempt for TFS.
Tallulah Falls (6-6-1) came away with a 2-1 win in epic fashion to punch a ticket to the Tri-State Championship game.
Early on, it was Maizee Fleming who scored just five minutes into the contest. Summit Charter equalized with just five minutes to go in regulation.
The second half was intense, as TFS controlled possession and spent more time in the attacking third, but neither team could find a breakthrough. The tie remained in place in both halves of extra time, sending the game to PKs.
In the best-of-five shootout, McCoy caused Summit's first shot to sail wide left. Audrey Roy made her attempt for TFS, and McCoy saved the next with a dive to her right. Tallulah missed its second shot, and Summit Charter evened it with a successful shot on their third try.
Tallulah's third shot hit off the crossbar, and Summit had the same thing happen to them. A fourth attempt for Tallulah was stopped, and Summit's final kick missed wide to the right. McCoy then delivered for Tallulah Falls.
"With everything on the line, Addisyn stepped up to kick," says coach Vinny Correa. "Calm, composed, and confident, she approached the ball like it was just another goal kick - and buried it in the top left corner."
The Lady Indians advance to the Tri-State Championship game to be held on Friday.
"What a game! A hard-fought battle from the very beginning. Our message going into the game was to go for it, give everything, take risks, and don't wait - football rewards the brave [quote by Jurgen Klopp]. We did exactly that."
