The rifle team had five athletes compete on December 6 in the Gary Anderson Invitational 3-Position Match. This was a National Match with many locations from coast to coast hosting competitions with electronic targets.
TFS shot at the 80-lane CMP South range in Anniston, AL in the fourth relay. Tallulah Falls fired a 2280 team score, coming in sixth in the nation.
Senior Michell McGahee was fourth individually with a 592 (out of a possible 600). His score tied alum Brianna Walter's school record when she led TFS to a National Championship in 2024. Mitchell scored a perfect 100 on his second card (10 shots) in each position to include a record 100 in standing.
Sophomore Desi Newkirk finished with a 576 in 29th spot, and freshman Faith Stout shot a 575 and ended up 36th. Due to the enormous number of shooters, medallions are given based on score ranges. McGahee ended up with a Gold, and Newkirk and Stout with Silver.
Freshman Georgia Phillips, in her very first match, shot a 536 to complete the team score. Freshman Gabby Oliver shot a 511, with her and Phillips finishing in the top-10 of the New Shooter category.
"We are very proud of this team and their rapid development," exclaims coach Tim Stamey.
